Good metadata rooted in a good subject taxonomy is critical to the success of a CMS project. Dow Jones and Factiva have long been experts in how to unify taxonomies. There original expertise came out of unifying the Dow Jones and Reuters corporate taxonomies. This work, once complete, was turned into another company, Factiva. Factiva has since been sold to News Corp in 2007.

Over the years Factiva has built up numerous business taxonomies that they now sell at the Taxonomy Warehouse. Not surprisingly, they also sell the Synaptica taxonomy management tool. They have hundreds of taxonomies in the following categories.
